July 19 - July 28
The III Office Olympiad of the Modern Era
The Olympic spirit was rekindled with Office Olympics 2004: the Games of the Gods! Sponsored by Libraries & Media Services, events began on Monday, July 19, and closed on Wednesday, July 28. Participation was open to staff of Libraries & Media Services, regardless of geographical location, and to all staff from other units who work in the Main Library building. Student employees were included.
Events were held each day from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Venues were throughout the Library and its nearby territories. Although designed to be wild and crazy, the Games were planned so as not to disrupt users and visitors to the Main Library.

Monday, July 19Opening CeremonyVenue: The Field of Dreams (outside at east side of Main Library) Diskus Throw [Triathlon Event]Venue: The Field of Dreams (outside at east side of Main Library) Description: This event offers a trip down Memory Lane for those who are old enough to remember the 5.25" diskus as standard equipment. Cyber-archaeologists have made available unearthed disks to challenge the athletes of this Olympiad to compete as in the days of olde. Due to unexpected modifications to the playing field, it will no longer be sufficient for the athlete to go for distance. To win, it will be necessary to apply skill and judgment and assess prevailing winds. Judges: N/A |
Tuesday, July 20Paper FutbolVenue: Greece Bowl (Room 122) Description: Okay, here is the game that got you through high school. Athletes will walk a balance beam, performing their own routines, while holding or balancing at least one volume of the LCSH. Even if you have never cataloged, can't remember a thing from the course you did have, or have no idea of what this might be about, you have a chance to make your mark in this event.
