GIS Metadata Standards

You may not think you need to create metadata (descriptive information about your GIS project) for your small project. However, metadata for all digital projects is needed. It notes for the user when your map was created, where and how the data was acquired, which projection you used, and any statistical analysis tools. You may decide (or you may be required by your funding agency) to deposit copies of your data into a repository. Metadata describes the data so that it can be indexed and cataloged by the repository. For additional metadata questions, contact the GIS librarian.
