Rotating vertical videos

filmstrip iconSo you shot a great video on your phone but when played back on your computer - oops - it’s sideways. Not to worry! A number of programs offer the option to rotate. For example:

  • Windows Movie Maker 2.6 provides rotation under Video Effects
  • Live Movie Maker displays rotate buttons under the Home tab
  • On a Mac, iMovie stores rotate buttons under the crop tool
  • Certain versions of Quicktime Player offer the option to rotate, either under the Edit menu or the Visual Settings tab of Window > Show Movie Properties

Please note that rotating your video will force you to crop it as well. Best practice? Don’t shoot vertical videos! ;-)
