iMovie's Picture-in-Picture Effect

software icon for iMovie 10.1Did you know that you can simulate a newscast video using iMovie? It's the picture-in-picture feature that does it! This effect allows a user to take a still image or video and superimpose it over top of a video, placing it as a mini clip in the upper corner of the screen. For instructions on how to apply this effect in the newer version of iMovie (10.1), check out Apple's support page on the topic, "iMovie for Mac: Create a picture-in-picture effect". You can also achieve this effect in older versions (like iMovie 2011), as long as you have your Advanced Tools enabled in Preferences. Then simply drag the new clip directly onto the main video and choose "Picture in Picture" from the popup menu. We're thinking SNL-style newscast parody ... perhaps you have a better use for it!
