SMS Tip of the Week: Multimedia Tips

Recording audio as WAV vs MP3

by Hilary Kennedy on 2019-09-11T17:22:00-04:00 | 0 Comments

Here's an audio tip (or "Didya Know?") for you! To achieve the best audio quality when recording (digitally) choose to save it as a WAV file rather than an MP3. WAV files contain the entire waveform while MP3s only contain portions of it, and the rest is digitally "filled in". That's why WAV files are so much larger than MP3s. If you were to take your MP3 file and record it back onto analog, such as a cassette tape, it would sound distorted.
