Using Online Imagery

Most online imagery comes in a format that needs a special viewer.

There are a few you can use for the links at the right. Downloads are at your own risk.

GeoViewer
A Lizard Tech plug in. Allows you to view data as an image file. Works on MrSid, Lidar imager, GeoTIFF, PNG and JPEG.
ArcGIS Explorer
ArcExplorer: the free version of ArcGIS that will not manipulate the images, but will let you zoom in and out and add some layers. Works with shapefiles.
ArcGIS Basic/ Advanced
Subscription software for doing GIS tasks including adding imagery. Available for Kent State Affiliated students, faculty and staff. Must contact Edith Scarletto, Map Librarian, for more information.

OSIP 2011
Ohio Statewide Imagery Program includes: 1FT MrSID County Mosaic; 6IN MrSID County Mosaic (30x); 6IN MrSID County Mosaic (100x); 6IN CIR County Mosaic (30x); 6IN CIR County Mosaic (100x) all listed by county.
OSIP 2006-2010
Ohio Statewide Imagery Program has the following imagery: 1FT Tile Layout; 6IN Tile Layout; 1M CIR Tile Layout; 1FT MrSID County Mosaic; 6IN MrSID County Mosaic; 1M CIR County Mosaic; LIDAR LAS Tiled; ASCII DEM Tiled; ESRI GRID DEM Tiled; ESRI GRID DEM Mosaic by county.
USGS LandsatLook Viewer
This system lets you view LandSat imagery zooming in to area of interest, move back through time from Oct 2011 to Jan 1999, select "Labels" to view town, street, etc names, click Metadata to view the image's info, the table feature allows for easy exports and organization of the data imagery.
ESRI Landsat Change Matters Viewer
ESRI 40 Years of Landsat GLS Data. Save image layers after you navigate, compare two years side by side, or launch the map with layers in ArcGIS.

Some counties have data downloads on their websites that are continually updated. These links are listed here.

Ashtabula County GIS
Parcel information, flood maps, soil information, watersheds, school districts and demographic information is displayed in an online GIS for the county.
Cuyahoga County GIS
Contains ArcGIS shapefiles for many county layers.
Erie County
Erie County GIS data downloads in Shapefile formats. Includes parcels, county basemap, road centerlines, addresses landmarks, school districts, as well as aerial photographs from 2001-2013.
Gallia County
Gallia tax and ownership parcel information on a dynamic GIS viewer.
Guernsey County
Guernsey County online tax and ownership parcel information in a dynamic online GIS system.
Mahoning County GIS
FTP downloads are available for the county for topography, LIDAR, taxmaps, etc. Shapefiles are also listed.
Noble County
Noble County parcel data information, tax and ownership details are provided in a dynamic GIS viewer.
Summit County
GIS data download for Summit County including utilities, transportation, scanned maps, parcels, environmental and aerial photography. Many older maps have been scanned and are available as raster files.
Tuscarawas County GIS Downloads
Parcel maps, shapefiles for townships, AUTOCAD dwg files, along with other data is available for download.
