Mark Twain (born Samuel Langhorne Clemens) was born in 1835 in Florida, Missouri. He wrote some of the most iconic stories in American literature, including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and The Prince and the Pauper. While a talented storyteller, his co-authored work The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today named and satirized the era of 1870's to 1900's America. Throughout his career, he wrote poems, essays, and one play as well as his novels. He is celebrated as a great American humorist and the "father of American literature" according to William Faulkner.
Kent State has an extensive collection of Mark Twain's work, including several interesting pieces in Special Collections.
