Check if the journal you're considering is considered predatory
According to the COPE site: "COPE is a forum for editors and publishers of peer reviewed journals to discuss all aspects of publication ethics." Predatory journals or publishers are generally not members. Check for membership under "About COPE" and "Find a Member."
While DOAJ doesn't guarantee the complete absence of predatory journals, their mission is to include only high-quality, peer reviewed open access journals.
