Flashes 101 - Library Engagement: Choose Your Adventure

Welcome to the University Libraries Flashes 101 Library Session LibGuide! This LibGuide is designed to assist instructors teaching Flashes 101 courses with scheduling a library session for their first-year students.

Our library's vision is "to be regarded as essential for student, staff, faculty, and community success." To help fulfill this vision, we offer an array of services for students. A great way to familiarize students with our resources and services is to schedule a library tour or a "Pop-In" visit.

*Please place your requests for sessions at least two weeks before your preferred session date so we can accommodate as many classes as possible.

Library Tour (Main Building)

A tour of the University Library is an excellent way for students to learn about our resources and services. Tours take 25-30 minutes, depending on the size of the class, and the students will visit floors one through four. Students will learn about:

  • The Library Services Desk, where they can get help and check out books and technology items like video cameras and tripods;
  • The student Multimedia Studio, a maker space with high-tech technology like a podcasting booth, 3D printing, and more;
  • Our computer area, where students can work on assignments, print documents, and get help at the Tech Help Desk;
  • The different types of individual and group study spaces;
  • Drop-in tutoring, Academic Coaching, and the Writing Commons, all of which support their academic success;
  • Other campus locations that are a part of the library.

"Pop In" Session

The "Pop In" session is perfect for instructors who may not have time in their class schedule to do a library tour. During this session, a librarian will come to your classroom and briefly discuss library spaces, resources, and services. These sessions last about 10-15 minutes and include a PowerPoint presentation.
