Makerspace at KSU Tuscarawas: Stop Motion Animation

Page that describes the Makerspace project, equipment and goals.

Stop Motion Animation

Stop Motion Animation is the art of taking an inanimate object and make it appear animated. Such as clay figures, as in the Wallace and Gromit movies and other types of figures as in Rudolph. We now have an area dedicated to this. We have several objects to use for the action or you can use your own. We have a camera or you can use your own camera or cellphone. You take a picture for every movement and use a movie program, like Windows Photos, and make it into a movie.

Welcome Back!

How to...

To make a stop motion animation film you need to:

  1. Come up with an idea as to what story you want to tell.
  2. Decide what characters will star in your movie and what scenery you will need(where you want the movie to take place).
  3. Set up your scenery and decide what you will be taking the pictures with.
  4. Sync the remote so you don't have to touch your camera and possibly move it.
  5. Take your pictures, moving items slightly in between each shot.
  6. When all done taking pictures, load them onto the computer or into your program on your device and make your movie. It's very simple, the program does most of the work.

The rule seems to be approximately 7-10 photos per second, although you can vary the length of time each shot is exposed. In the welcome back video. each photo is exposed for .20 of a second, which is only 5 photos per second.

Don't forget to put in a title slide and give credit to yourself for the video!

Once you come up with the story, the rest is rather simple! Enjoy!
