Library Information: Fines

This guide will inform patrons of library services and address common questions about library use.

How much are late fines?

Fines are:

  • $.50 per day overdue for all Kent or OhioLINK items borrowed
  • $.50 per hour for reserve materials
  • $.50 per day for inter-library loans

Can I still check out items if I have a fine?

Yes!

You can check out items until you have $10.00 in fines. If you have $10.00 or more in library fines, you will need to pay at least some of your fines (so that the total is below $10.00) before you can check out or request other materials.

How do I know if I have fines?

When you have an overdue book which is accumulating fines, we will send an email to your KSU email account.

You can also see your fines using the 'My Account' link in the catalog.

If you lose a book and are responsible for the fees, we will notify you via KSU email.

How much do I have to pay if I lose a book?

Any library item not returned by the last day of class each semester or 30 days after the due date is considered lost, and you'll get a notice telling you this in your Kent email.

Charges for lost items are:

  • $75.00 for a lost KSU University item
  • $75.00, plus a $50.00 processing and billing fee for a lost OhioLINK item (total: $125)

***If the item is found within one (1) year, the item may be returned for a refund of the replacement fee of $75 only.  The billing fee of $50 is non-refundable.
