The Kent State Archives and Special Collections has a signed copy of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass which dates back to 1889.
Spotlight Exhibits
The Spotlight Exhibits located in the Special Collections and Archives on the 12th floor displays several pieces including American poets, British and American Literature, and Children's Literature.
American Weave: A Literary Journal records
A Cleveland based journal published from 1945-1971 centered around the submissions from poets. Local poets from CSU made frequent submissions to the journal.

A collection of miscellaneous manuscripts by American authors.

Hart Crane
(1899-1932) Born in Garrettsville Ohio, Crane was one of the most acclaimed American poets of the twentieth century.
Stephen R. Donaldson
(1947-) A Cleveland born KSU Alumni, Donaldson is an American fantasy, science fiction and mystery novelist most well known for his ten novel series, The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant.
Robert Lowry
(1919-1994) A novelist, short story writer, illustrator, and independent press publisher from Cincinnati Ohio.
d.a. levy
(1942-1968) Levy was a Cleveland based poet with experience in art and publishing as well. He frequently signed and wrote in lower case letters
Delia Bacon
(1811-1859) Born in Tallmadge Ohio, Bacon wrote plays and short stories. Notably, she was also a scholar on the work of Shakespeare.

Albert Borowitz
(1930-2023) A true crime historian who has researched and published several works on various historical events involving a variety of crimes.
Charles Jackson
(1903-1968) Jackson was an American author most known for his published works including The Lost Weekend, The Fall of Valor, and The Outer Edges.
Denise Levertov
(1923-1997) A British-American poet who became part of the Black Mountain Group which published their modernist views in numerous volumes in the 1950s and 1960s. She addressed family relationships, the natural world, politics, and notably the Vietnam War.
Gary Snyder
(1930-) Snyder is an American poet associated with the San Francisco Renaissance. He has also done translation works from East Asia, translating Chinese and Japanese literature into English.

(1917-1999) American prose writer born in Cambridge Massachusetts and educated at Harvard University.

(1911-1983) Tennessee was an American playwright that made an everlasting contribution to theatre by utilizing theatrical poetry in combination with control of language and atmosphere.
William Carlos Williams
(1883-1963) Williams was an American poet that took part in modernism and imagism. He received the National Book Award in 1950.
