About RefWorks

RefWorks is a Web-based bibliography and database manager that enables you to:

  • Organize your research
  • Import references from many electronic databases
  • Include citations while you write your paper
  • Build a bibliography according to different stylesheets (APA, MLA, etc.)
  • Create a bibliography in different document formats (Word, RTF, HTML, etc.)

Available to authorized Kent State uses.  Off-campus access through theKent VPN.


Getting Started

Access the Kent State RefWorks home page and select the new account link. Remember to use the VPN if you are off-campus.

Other Options

RefWorks also offers options for sharng and collaborating.  Explore these options:

  • RefShare
  • Creating multiple RefWorks accounts.
  • Creating a Read-Only password.
  • Sharing yur login information. 

Exporting Database Search Results to RefWorks

  1. When you identify articles of interest in CINAHL, click Add to Folder. 
  2. To view folder conents, select "Folder has items".to  link to Folder View.
  3. You then  have choices to print, e-mail, save or export selected citations.
  4. Mark the items you want to export and then click Export on the right-hand side of the screen.
  5. On the Export Manager page, select Direct Export to RefWorks press Save.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next Steps

  1. You will be prompted to login to your RefWorks account if you have not already done so. After you have logged in the Import Manager screen appears.  
  2. Click on View Last Imported Folder to view the references transferred from CINAHL.
  3. To organize these references into folders,  select items  or mark all in list and clisk the folder icon to move them into folders.  

Create a Bibliography from a List of References

  1. To generate a reference list, click on Bibliography in the Refworks toolbar.
  2. Select the output style: APA American Psychological Association, 6th Ed.   Change if necessary. 
  3. Select a file type
  4. Click Create Bibliography.
  5. The RefList dialog box appears. Select open or save as appropriate.

IMPORTANT: You still need to know APA style and make any corrections or revisions required before submitting your work.
