Searching CINAHL: Option 1

Why Choose Option 1:

  • CINAHL is the premiere nursing database.
  • When other databases are added (option 2), some CINAHL features are lost, such as the ability to limit to "Evidence-Based Practice."

To find an article:

  1. Make sure the "Suggest Subject Terms" box is "unclicked."
  2. Type the keyword of your topic on the first line
  3. Near the bottom right of the page, check "Evidence-based Practice" and then "Search"

   

Searching Multiple Databases: Option 2

Why Choose Option 2:

  • Saves time by searching multiple databases at once.

To add databases to your search:

  1. click on the “Choose Databases” link at the top of the screen.
  2. From this list, look for Medline and Health Source/Nursing Academic
  3. Check the box beside your choice(s).
  4. Click the “OK” button.

Then follow these instructions to find an article:

  1. Type your topic on the first line
  2. Add Nursing on the second line, truncate it to nurs* to get both terms nurse or nursing
  3. Add Evidence-based practice on the third line
  4. Hit "Search"
