University Libraries Reopening Plan

This guide provides information on the staged reopening of Kent State University Libraries during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Phase 1: Key Triggers

  • Preparing for the provisioning of print resources.
  • Clearing of Hold Shelf pilot project.
  • Beginning of scanning service from print collection by ILL / DD and Special Collections.

In addition to Recent Phase activities, University Libraries will remain closed to the campus community but will begin additional activity to prepare for the provisioning of the University’s print resources and clearing Hold Shelf items.  The University’s Architects Office and Library Administration will survey the building to determine classroom capacity and capacity of common areas for planning purposes.

Phase 1: People and Needs

  1. Select staff will be added to the current in-building staff to help facilitate the shelving of  returned items.
  2. Select staff will begin the process of notifying Hold Shelf patrons of requested items pickup procedure for those items, and then facilitate the pickup process through a pilot project.
  3. Mail Room staff will be needed to facilitate the packing and transport of returned items to branch libraries on campus.
  4. The introduction of staff to branch libraries on campus to process returned items delivered by Mail Room staff.
  5. Scheduling of all in-building and branch library staff must reflect “best practices” for adhering to  stated physical distancing and safety guidelines
