Data Management: Writing a Data Management Plan

Information on what you need to do in order to write a data management plan

Overview

There are five main questions to focus on during the creation of your data management plan:

  • What kind of data will you create?
  • How are you going to document your data?
  • How are you taking care of sensitive data?
  • What are you doing with data at the end of your research?
  • How are you going to share your data once the research is concluded?

Our research data working group at the University Libraries can also assist with data management planning. You can email the working group at researchdata@kent.edu.

This video provides a good overview of how to write data management plan. As University of Wisconsin Milwaukee data librarian Kristen Briney points out her video, it is always paramount to first check the guidelines of your particular grant application for specifics. For assistance authoring your data management plan, please contact Kent State University Libraries' data librarian Michael Hawkins for assistance.
