Turnitin

Turnitin is a component within Canvas that is used to detect unoriginal text in student papers. Turnitin checks the paper against multiple sources and then generates an Originality Report. The report will highlight areas that could be potentially considered plagiarized.

It is important to note that just because Turnitin highlights an area does not mean it is plagiarized. Turnitin does not check to make sure that in-text citations and references are correct.

University Libraries offer students the opportunity to have their papers submitted to Turnitin as drafts. The library will submit the papers for the students and have a Turnitin Originality Report created. It may take up to 48 hours to generate the report. Once the report is generated, the library will email the Originality Report to the student along with comments. The comment will only cover issues found in the report, not issues with the writing. For writing assistance, please visit the Writing Commons located on the 4th floor of the University Libraries.
